Most concrete problems are not concrete problems. A driveway that cracks or a slab that lifts within a few years almost always failed underneath, not on top.
The sub base was not excavated deep enough, the compaction was rushed, or the reinforcement was left sitting on the ground instead of up where it does its job.
That is the part a quote cannot show you and a photo cannot prove. It is also the easiest place for a cheap price to come from, because it disappears under the pour the same afternoon it goes in.
The engineering background changes how that part of the job gets treated. Set-out, levels and fall for drainage are not an afterthought before the truck arrives, they are the reason the job holds up ten years later instead of needing a second visit.
